GREAT SAND DUNES
Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado is home to the tallest sand dunes in North America, some rising over 750 feet high. Formed over thousands of years by wind and water, the dunes sit against the snow-capped Sangre de Cristo Mountains, creating a one-of-a-kind landscape. Visitors can sled down the slopes, splash in Medano Creek, or stargaze in one of the darkest skies in the country.
A STORM ROLLS IN
The San Luis Valley stretches wide between the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan Mountains, where summer storms often roll in from the west. Dark clouds sweep across the open plain, bringing bursts of rain that contrast with the golden light.
